What We Are Doing Right Now

The Halton Council on Smoking or Health is busy determining their focus and planning initiatives for the remainder of 2007 and into 2008. Plans include:

  • Support the Driven to Quit Challenge (Provincial quit smoking Contest):
Over 900 Halton residents participated in this contest in 2007.  Way to go Halton!  The HCSH plans to promote the 2008 Driven to Quit Challenge in Halton beginning in January.  For more information on this contest see www.driventoquit.ca for more details.

  • Tobacco Free Sport and Recreation:
The HCSH wants to foster healthy, active, tobacco free youth by encouraging area sport and recreation organizations to adopt tobacco free policies and support tobacco free playing fields.  The Council will be developing and distributing various resources about this initiative in late 2007 and early 2008 to increase awareness and encourage organizations to be tobacco free! • Support Youth Tobacco Related Activities:
Under the Smoke-Free Ontario Strategy, the Ministry of Health Promotion has funded a community-based youth group known as Halton’s Youth Action Alliance. The HCSH will partner with the YAA to establish a HCSH youth volunteer committee and plan and implement youth-related tobacco activities in Halton.
